Summer Holiday Program

Jan Juc SLSC offers the Summer Holiday Program during the summer holidays (late December to mid January) focusing on participation and learning, with an introduction to surf competition. The program focuses on:

  • Fun
  • Basic First Aid
  • Awareness of beach hazards such as rips, waves, rocks etc.
  • Introducing aspects of the surf sport activities such as board paddling, wading, and beach flags.

Each age group is taught specific skills and activities.  A nipper MUST achieve all the skills of their age group to be attain the relevant Surf Education Award. Certificates are awarded during a presentation at the final Summer Holiday Program session.

This national education program is designed for 6-13 year olds and is structured to provide a continual development of surf awareness specific to their ages and abilities right through to the Surf Rescue Cetificate (SRC) for U14s. The SRC is the introductory award for a cadet patrolling lifesaver (age 13-15).

Surf Sports Program

In the 6 month Surf Sports Program nippers train regularly in order to compete in various events at Junior Surf Lifesaving Carnivals & Championships run by Life Saving Victoria (LSV) throughout the season. The program runs from mid October through to February/March. All nippers are welcome to join our Surf Sports Program; however they must be able to complete their age group ability swimming skills (S-Badge distances).

In addition, Jan Juc SLSC encourages family participation with many social actiivities being organised during the summer. Parents also have the opportunity to complete the Bronze Medallion themselves, allowing them to assist with water safety.
