ABOUT

The Summer Holiday Program runs over a two-week period (8 sessions) commencing Monday 27 December 2021.

This program provides all children (U7-13) the opportunity to participate, learn and have fun. It focuses on:

  • Basic First Aid
  • Awareness of beach hazards such as rips, waves, rocks etc.
  • Introducing aspects of the surf sport activities such as board paddling (age dependent), surf swimming, body surfing, wading, beach sprints and beach flags.

Each age group is taught specific skills and activities.

A nipper who achieves all the skills of their age group will attain the Surf Education Award.

You MUST submit the correct Age Group Nipper Registration form for any nipper who wishes to particpate in the Nipper Programs.

Preliminary Swim Assessment

Evidence of a nipper’s swimming competency is mandatory for all nippers and must be provided before participating in any water-based activities. Evidence can take the form of:

  1. Return of this Preliminary Swim Assessment 2021-2022 form to the Club Office after it is signed by a parent AND a qualified coach, swim teacher or lifeguard;
  2. A nipper’s Competition Skills Evaluation (S-Badge) from the 2020/2021 season – no assessment is required but a parent will need to complete this Preliminary Swim Assessment 2021-2022 form to indicate that the nipper can still meet the requirements;
  3. Assessment by the Age Group Coach at a club organised pool based session (details on TeamApp);
  4. Assessment by the U7 Age Group Coach as part of the early sessions at the beach (Under 7 Nippers only).

The impact for nippers who are unable to complete any of the above options is:

  • Under 7&8 – Can participate in Nippers, the club will provide modified activities.
  • Under 9-13 – Unable to participate as activities will require the nippers to swim the minimum swim assessment distance. VicSwim or attending swim lessons would be more beneficial to the child.

Please refer all Preliminary Swim Assessment questions to nippers@janjucsurfclub.com.au or via the TeamApp chat rooms.

      The Bells Bash Cliff Run will take place on Friday 14th January 2022 backed up the next morning, Saturday 15th January 2022, by the Danger Swim Series. Register here.

      The Bells Bash 4km and 8km courses take runners along a picturesque undulating track between Jan Juc and the world famous Bells Beach. The course is challenging, but is regularly used by runners and walkers and overlooks much of the stunning coastline between the two points. Runners can expect to complete the 8km course in between 30 – 45 minutes. Joggers can expect to complete the 8 km course in between 45 – 60 minutes.

      Specially struck Bells Bash medallions will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place-getters in all categories for the 4km and 8km events. All place-getters will also receive wonderful prizes. Heaps of random sports gear giveaways will be awarded before, during and after both races. Each competitor receives an entrant pack including a T-shirt.

      The Junior Juc Bash is an introduction to fun runs for children aged from 5 – 12 years with a 1.5km run along the beach and cliff tops of Jan Juc Beach. The aim is to have fun and enjoy the participation. It is not a timed event and there are random prizes presented at the conclusion of the race. Younger kids will have “Juc Man” to assist them on their independent journey, guiding them and eliminating the need for parents to accompany their children.The first 200 entrants will receive a free Junior Juc Bash T-Shirt.

      A great day of running for the whole family

      Check out our other major event - The Danger Ocean Swim Series

      The Danger Swim Series at Pt Danger (Torquay Front Beach) is one of the biggest and most popular open water swims in Victoria. This event is run by the Jan Juc SLSC at the calm, protected and picturesque location that the locals fondly refer to as "Cosy Corner". This idyllic setting is protected by Point Danger.

      With the start and finish being almost in the same place by virtue of the triangular course, the event provides a great day for spectators. The natural amphitheatre of the grass slopes overlooking the course allows excellent viewing of the whole event. A line of mature Norfolk pines allows plenty of shade and it is a great location for a race day picnic. Torquay is an easy drive of a little over an hour from Melbourne and plenty of free parking at the event is available. Permanent buoys define the approximate course year round for those wishing to train.

      There are four race distances incorporated into the Danger Swim Series – 500m, 1km, 2.5km and 5km – attracting around 2000 competitors, with ages ranging from 9 – 75. Prizes are awarded to all age group categories for men and women, as well as spot prizes being awarded throughout the day. Each competitor receives an entrant pack including a T-shirt, swim cap and other goodies.

      Attracting competitors from around the country, including previous winner and current record holder, Australian Ironman Champion Ky Hurst of Queensland in the record time of 8 minutes 47 seconds for the 1km course. Good luck beating that!

      These are Plastic Wise Events.
