Nippers commence with a body board (U7 & U8), then progress to a soft top board (soft board) with handles (U9-10), then transition to a fibreglass board (hard board) with handles (U11-13).

Jan Juc SLSC have some boards available for hire. An application for Board Hire form must be completed and Hire Fee and Bond must be paid prior to collecting a board. Hire boards are soft boards only.

U11-13 nippers who want hard boards are encouraged to purchase their own. Hard boards can be bought new, although many are available second-hand as nippers progress or ‘grow out’ of their boards. Nippers in U11-13 who are going to compete will require their own hard board.

Second-hand boards available within the club are often advertised on TeamApp.  There is also a Facebook group called ‘New/Used Surf Craft Victoria’, where members from Jan Juc and other surf lifesaving clubs regularly buy and sell secondhand boards.
