POWER CRAFT AWARDS
Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club is an inclusive, welcoming and family-oriented Club that supports and nurtures participation from all community members. From nippers through to life members, our Club’s focus is split equally between building community and safety in the water. |
POWER CRAFT AWARDS Operate specialist rescue equipment with precision in challenging surf conditions. Power craft plays a critical role in rapid response and effective patrol operations. Inflatable Rescue Boats (IRBs), introduced to surf lifesaving in the 1960s, have transformed rescue capability by allowing crews to reach multiple patients swiftly, navigate heavy surf, and provide essential support during major incidents and emergency operations. Every IRB rescue involves a highly trained two-person team. At Jan Juc SLSC, members can gain qualifications to crew or drive these vital rescue assets, as well as operate shore-based support vehicles. IRB Driver (Silver Medallion IRB Driver) - 17+ years Responsible for vessel control, surf navigation and rescue decision-making. IRB Crew Certificate (IRBC) - 15+ years Supports balance, patient retrieval, communication and stability in the surf zone. Side-by-Side Vehicle (SSV) - 18+ years. Patrol Support & Beach Operations Qualified members operate SSVs to transport equipment, respond to incidents along the coastline, and provide logistical support during patrols and events.
